Biography

Taiyo is a Sydney-based singer, pianist and performer whose artistic development has been shaped by independence, curiosity and real-world performance experience. Born in 2010 to a Japanese mother and a French father, he grew up in a multicultural environment that naturally influenced his musical sensibility and openness to languages and styles.

His relationship with music began early, not through formal education but through instinct. As a toddler, he explored rhythm with household objects, later discovering percussion instruments such as the djembe. At the age of five, he learned to play the didgeridoo, even carving his own instrument in the Queensland bush with the guidance of an Aboriginal elder. These early experiences grounded his understanding of music as something physical, emotional and communal.

At six years old, Taiyo began performing regularly on the streets, driven by a simple motivation: sharing joy. Street performance quickly became central to his artistic identity. It taught him audience awareness, resilience, adaptability and emotional honesty;  skills rarely acquired so young in traditional settings.

At nine, he received a piano and, within six months, was already performing publicly while singing. Entirely self-taught, Taiyo learned by watching tutorials online and experimenting relentlessly. He does not read sheet music, relying instead on listening, intuition and repetition. Alongside this independent learning, he received mentorship from Jessica Roemischer, who helped guide his artistic growth.

During the Covid-19 lockdowns, Taiyo discovered studio recording and independently funded his first sessions through a successful AUD 3,000 Kickstarter campaign. Since then, he has regularly released original music across digital platforms, steadily building a catalogue that reflects his evolving voice.

In 2022, he won the Best Singer/Songwriter award at the Sydney Eisteddfod and received an EdStart scholarship to support his recordings. That same year, he auditioned for The Voice Kids France, where all four coaches turned their chairs during his blind audition, and he progressed to the semi-finals.

Between late 2022 and early 2023, Taiyo travelled across Europe with his family, busking in cities such as Amsterdam, Barcelona and Montpellier:  an experience that inspired his EP Missing Home. Back in Australia, he returned to his regular street performance spots in Manly and Circular Quay, reinvesting his earnings into better equipment and artistic development.

Now a student at the Australian Performing Arts Grammar School in Sydney, Taiyo continues to balance education, street performance and recording. In February 2026, he joined Australian Idol as its youngest participant, opening new opportunities while staying deeply connected to his roots as a live performer.

Artistic Identity & Direction

Taiyo’s artistic identity is rooted in live connection. He is particularly drawn to songs that carry emotional weight and timeless melodies. Recently, he has enjoyed reinterpreting international classic songs in multiple languages, allowing audiences to rediscover familiar music through a new lens.

His direction blends intimacy and universality: stripped-back piano performances, emotional vocals, and a growing interest in staging his street energy into full live shows. Long-term, Taiyo aims to develop stage productions that preserve the authenticity of busking while expanding the scale and storytelling of his performances.
